Apply for international workshops in Damongo and Yendi, Northern Ghana
The complete call for applications is out! You can already apply by reading the call available here and in the workshops page: https://ateliers.org/en/workshops/250/
Following the Shaping Greater Tamale workshop held in June-July 2026, this new initiative will bring together a multidisciplinary team of professionals from Ghana and around the world for two consecutive five-day urban planning workshops, building a territorial vision for the two growing capitals.
Damongo: Innovating the Savannah Capital
Located in Ghana’s Savannah Region, Damongo was designated regional capital in 2019. Once a relatively small district town, it is now experiencing rapid growth as it takes on new administrative and economic responsibilities. Surrounded by remarkable natural and cultural assets, including Mole National Park and the historic Larabanga Mosque, Damongo faces the challenge of developing its infrastructure and services while building a distinctive identity rooted in local communities, heritage, nature and productive activities.
Yendi: The peaceful and attractive Dagbon Capital
Located in the Northern Region, Yendi is the traditional capital of the Dagbon Kingdom and a strategic urban centre along Ghana’s Eastern Corridor. Following the restoration of peace in 2019, the city has an opportunity to renew its development trajectory. Its cultural heritage, agricultural economy and strategic location offer considerable potential, while growing infrastructure needs and urban expansion call for a shared vision of its future.
How can these two cities turn their growing responsibilities and unique territorial identities into opportunities for more attractive and resilient development?
One caravan, two workshops
The Caravan Workshops will take place in Damongo and then Yendi, with five days dedicated to each city. Following the collaborative methodology of Les Ateliers, the initiative will combine field visits, exchanges with local stakeholders and intensive collective work.
Working in multidisciplinary teams, participants will contribute to a shared understanding of each city's challenges and opportunities, develop strategic spatial visions, and propose concrete planning priorities and potential projects. Their work will help inform ongoing local spatial planning processes and support municipal authorities and their partners in shaping the future of both cities.
The two workshops offer an opportunity to explore different urban and territorial contexts within Northern Ghana, learn from local knowledge and contribute practical ideas to cities undergoing significant challenges.
Who can apply?
We are looking for eight motivated professionals from Ghana and internationally, with diverse backgrounds and a shared interest in urban and territorial development.
Urban planners, architects, landscape designers, geographers, economists, environmentalists, ecologists, engineers, sociologists, artists and professionals from other relevant disciplines are welcome to apply. We value interdisciplinary perspectives, professional experience, creativity and the ability to work collaboratively across different contexts.
