Special methodology of Les Ateliers
The methodology
Gathering, during a given period of time, womens and mens of different nationalities and skills (engineers, artists, urban planers, geographists, architects, economists), and having them working in several teams on an urban plannig and development subject, which was chosen jointly with the authorities of the area. Then, organizing a presentation of the teams proposals to an international jury made of experts and representatives of the local authority.
Among the different forms of workshop that we offer, all respect the essential principles of the methodology :
- diversity of profiles: age, skill, nationality
- A situation of competition, headed to the final presentation to an international jury
- liberty of proposals, linked to a total liberty of acceptation from the client (the authorities)
- implication from the client (the authorities) to a decisionnal level
Developed since 1981, the original methodology of les Ateliers has enable to give rythm and to push always further the work of the teams toward a more accurate, and clearer exploration of their ideas...

Different workshops
Student workshop
Duration : 4 weeks
Participants : 5 teams of 6 students.
At least 12 nationalities.
Coaching by a groupe of experts.
Selection of the participants on the basis of a research work dine on the subject of the workshop.
Preparation of the workshop by a prefiguaration conference organised 8 months before with the clients (local authorities).
Preparation delay : 12 months.
Professionnal workshop
Duration : 2 weeks,
Participants : 3 or 4 teams of 7 or 8 professionnals (civil servants, private workers, university teachers and researchers...).
At least 7 nationalities.
Selection of the participants made on the basis of a personnal letter showing the interest of the candidate to the subject studied.
Preparation made by several missions.
Preparation delay : 9 months.
Seminaries ("Flash" workshops)
Les Ateliers are also able to organize concrete custom-made applications on a subject of urban planning :
- Seminaries of application of a workshop : made on a subject already treated by a student or professional workshop, but implemented in a different place. Participation of a dozen of experts during a limited period of time. Example : 2 x 2 days.
- Working groups : Les Ateliers can use their network in order to lead different groups of reflexion on urban planning subjects. It ca lead to the organisation of seminaries, round tables, as well as become the subject of a workshop.
- Special seminaries... It is alsopossible to gather memebrs of Les Ateliers in order to lead a group reflexion on a given topic.
